    Roy's BBQ RTE - Hutchinson KS - 03-31-12

    Fifth Annual Roy’s BBQ RTE
Hutchinson, KansasSaturday, March 31, 201211:00 AM

BBQ at Roy’s in Hutchinson & Pie at the Carriage Crossing in Yoder

The Roy’s BBQ Ride to Eat is our traditional start of the riding season here in Kansas. It’s open to anyone who Ann doesn’t throw out of the restaurant; I’ve also posted announcements on the ST-Owners forum and our ROMEO (Retired Old Motorcyclists Eating Out) forum.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been gathering at
Roy’s for five years now. It’s a good way to start the riding season, warm up for the Moonshine Lunch Run (two weeks afterwards,) and play the Kansas Spring Weather Lottery.

We’ll meet for lunch at Roy’s BBQ (1018 Nickerson Blvd., Hutchinson) at 11:00 AM. (Optional tire kicking and BS will take place prior to that.) It makes for an early start for some, but it lets us beat the crowd. (In the tradition of real BBQ places, it’s over when the meat’s gone.) Save a little bit of room, because after lunch we’ll take a short ride to Yoder for pie at the Carriage Crossing. There’s reserved motorcycle parking (which we’ll quickly overflow) on the south side, and Amish buggies parked on the north side.

After the pie, some of you may want to visit the Kansas Cosmosphere (http://www.cosmo.org). They have American rockets, German V1 and V2s, American and Russian space capsules, and an SR71 Blackbird hanging in the lobby. There’s also an IMAX theatre, a planetarium, and a tremendous amount of other stuff.

Last year we had had nineteen people, arriving via seventeen Hondas and one Cadillac. (Note that all motorcycles, and cars if necessary, are welcome.) Six states were represented: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma

I will buy lunch, and pie, for the rider traveling the farthest. In the past four years, we’ve had people ride from Louisiana, California, and Arizona (twice) to claim the free meal. The long distance rider will also get his or her name engraved on the legendary Mixon Cup, which is proudly displayed year-round at Roy’s. In addition, I’ll buy pie at the Carriage Crossing for anyone who shows up with a current MSTA membership card.

We had forty-four motorcycles, one scooter, and one Suzuki automobile (carrying a guy with a broken leg...) As nearly as I can figure, there were forty-eight in attendance, representing seven states (CO, IL, KS, LA, MO, OK, WI.) Most of the riders were from the ST forum and our local ROMEOs group, but we did manage close to twenty percent of the Kansas MSTA membership (Cary and I...) The Okie contingent was much less attractive than usual, as we missed seeing our favorite adjacent state director. The weather was great, as was the food and the company. I'll schedule another RTE soon, probably shooting for sometime in May.

Sorry Rog but I had a pesky birthday dinner to go to last night. Thought about missing it but since I was the guest of honor that might have been a bit tacky

I'm also still waiting on a new front tire. I put a PR3 on the rear and only after that found out that the front had gone on backorder Luckily the front wasn't quit as bad as the rear so I'd have probably been ok with it. As long as it's here in 2 weeks I'm hoping to start some of my Arkansas runs.

FZ1 rally is the last weekend of April.
    T-24 2nd weekend of May
    Huck's R&T 3rd weekend of May
    Memorial Weeked 4th weekend.
