We finally had a nice weather day and took the bikes out for a ride. Very fun. We used the Scala Rider G4s to communicate. I have good new and bad news. The good news is that they worked great! We were able to communicate with each other clearly and frequently. The bad news is we were able to communicate frequently. Lol I wanted a mute button so I didn't have to listen to my husband everytime I didn't do something exactly how he wanted or to warn me about a car at an intersection that might pull-out (like I didn't already see it) or why didn't I start out at an intersection at the same time as him. Men! I am so ready to go out on my own. Unfortunately, the weather has taken a turn for the worse again. Will spring every arrive in Reno? I am starting to wonder. I am so jealous of all of you that have talked of a mild winter/spring. The first day it is nice I am riding to school. Time to shock my kindergarenters (or more likely their parents). lol

Congratulations on the Scala purchase, now for the hubby issue...I, too have a self-appointed full time track coach who instructs me every moment while riding - Just don't worry about all the comments and helpful hints, it's when he stops giving them that you should worry, (just kidding).
We talk constantly while riding, which would drive most people crazy. We discuss the roads, the bikes, the weather, the tires, the ATV sitting beside the road, if the dog is moving on that front porch, etc. This constant babble has saved both our bacon on numerous occasions as it helps draw your attention to issues even before they come into your field of vision. When riding with a group we always try to split up, one will ride to the front of the group and the other to the back. We're constantly counting bikes in front and back of us and relaying the information to each other. We've used the scala system to call 911 without removing helmets, and my favorite, discussing things while off the bike at gas stations - "how much was your gas?" I wouldn't want to ride without it now.

Gayla, thanks for letting me know I am not the only one. I did like the talking part for sure. He did say "you did good" just before we got home so that made it all worth it.

Shameless plug: I sell and service Autocom. After trying all the others I believe it is the best for Sport touring. It is flexible and really provides the best audio on the market at speed on a motorcycle.

If you want something wireless skip all the other stuff and go straight to the SENA SMH10 setup.

Autocom guy here. So many options.

For bike to bike, simple, inexpensive GMRS radio and an Autocom PTT (push to talk) switch mounted on the left grip is da bomb.

I too have an 2007 FZ6. I rode it to work two days last week. They were my first outings on my motorcycle by myself. I still used my Scala Rider unit. I had it tuned to an FM station for traffic reports. I did take backroads (less traffic and more fun!) Everything went really well. All my kindergarteners thougth I was cool (lol) and parents too. My staff members were split. They either thought it was cool and very brave of me or they thought I was crazy and told me to be careful!! The other teachers I teach kindergarten with even came out to send me off when I left school Monday afternoon. It was very fun and I appreciated it very much. Of course, I had to text my hubbie when I got to school and when I was leaving. It's nice he cares. I even figured out how to get my gym clothes in my saddlebags. I am all set now!! We are going to MotoGP in Laguana Seca (Montery, CA) in July. The big debate. Do we ride our motorcycles or take the car (free gas in company car). It is 300 miles from Reno. We are thinking a day to ride. A day to watch race and return on the 3rd day. Our 16 year son will be riding his SV650.

We drove to Sears Point to watch AMA races on Saturday. Beautiful weather and fun to watch races. Those guys and gals (YES!!!) go really fast. We took the cars because we had our 15 year old foreign exchange student with us and he wouldn't last 3 hours on the back of my husband's motorcycle.

I'm kinda biased since I'm an Autocom dealer and rep. But IMHO the Autocom products provide the best flexibility and sound quality on the market. I'm going to be at Star 2012 so you can see it firsthand. If you're not going to be there, email me off list: lisa@divenrideadventures.com or look at the importer's website: http://www.autocomdirect.com

We have been using the Scala G4s for a while now. My husband had a hard time getting the intercomm part to engage from his end. He called customer support twice. He finally got a guy who knew what was going on and fixed it easily. I had a blond moment recently on a ride (even though I have brown hair) and forgot to fix the strap on my helmet. We were moments from getting on the interstate when I noticed it. I was able to call on the intercomm to tell my husband I had to pull over quickly. Him and my son pulled over to wait for me. Good thing I noticed before we got on the interstate. At 75 mph isn't a good time to notice it. heehee lukcy that route has few semi-trucks on it. I won't go that again - maybe.

I was riding to work the last week of school and my husband called me to see how the phone feature worked. It worked great! He could hear me clearly. He didn't hear any wind noise from the helmet either. This is a good thing because he is on-call for work for a week once a month. That was seriously cutting into our riding time. Now we can go riding and if he gets a work call, he can answer it. You get a pimg in your helmet if you get a text message too if your phone is bluetoothed into your unit.

Denise, I thought I wouldn't like the speakers in the helmet either, but I do like them. The volume level adjusts according to your rate of speed (somehow). The faster you go, the louder it gets. Slow down and it gets softer. You can adjust the volume on the unit too.

Last Saturday was a beautiful day here in Northern Nevada, the hubbie and I rode our bikes up the twisty route to Lake Tahoe. We drove around for a while and headed home. We were taking the longer "ring road" that goes around Reno to avoid construction on I-80 unfortunately, it has lots of stoplights. Saturday afternoon, we were hitting every light red, it was getting to be 90 degrees out and I was hot and tired. I stalled the bike taking off from on stoplight. He said what's the problem. Be careful, cars behind you expect you to go, they are going to hit you, be sure to give it more gas, blah, blah, blah. At the next redlight, he stalls it. So, I give him the same lecture. It was hilarious!!!! Got to love those G4s...
