Thanks for the update, on both the Hotel and Star Kitty...
If you attended STAR 2002 in Hot Springs, AR, you will remember the Majestic Hotel, that was STAR HQ. I remember many good times there and also always remember it as the place where we found a stray kitten that liked to come to the front of the hotel in the evening when members were gathered there. Even though the little kitten was homeless, it was friendly toward people and Donna convinced me to bring him home. In the next few STAR members meetings, I recall that we included an update pic of our STAR kitty for those who asked how he was doing. Here is a pic that Ed Young took of him as he sat outside the hotel one evening.
Last week my son David and I did another Fall Ozark tour on our bikes and since we were near Hot Springs, I thought of our adopting our STAR kitty and decided that I would go thru town to see the Majestic Hotel. To my surprise, it was closed, as was the nearby Velda Rose, our STAR overflow hotel. As we were parked in front of the hotel, a gentleman stopped by in his pickup truck and told us about the current status. It had closed in 2006 and has been vacant since then. He said he was trying to organize a group of investors to buy it and remodel it into apartments, but they had not had any luck doing that so far.
It was sad to see what once was a grand hotel with a rich history sitting vacant and deteriorating. In any case, I thought you all might be interested in seeing what it looked like now.
As for STAR kitty, he is now 10 years old and doing well. Matter of fact, he helped me type this.
