    Short Notice Ride

    Short Notice Ride:

Looks like Sunday will be the best day for riding the Central Texas Hill Country in quite a while. Right now forecasted conditions are for a cool start to the morning with highs in the upper 80’s across the hills to very low 90’s in the city areas with lots of sun and little wind.

Central Texas MSTA members will be meeting at the CVS Pharmacy on Wonderworld Drive at the intersection of Hunter Road in San Marcos for a stands up time of 9am. (Note: there have been a lot of road changes in San Marcos and not all the roads are accurately depicted in the Garmin software) Please arrive with enough fuel to go 150 miles at a moderate to fast pace across the route. (Note: there is not a gas station at this intersection but there are very close by)If your ride of choice for the day cannot do 150 miles by chance, please let me know before we depart and I will plan a fuel stop prior. Likely we will stop and take a break in either Boerne or Bandera anyway.

    The route of flight outbound will be RR12 – RR32 – RR473 –RR474 – Boerne – SH46 –SH16 – Bandera – SH16 – RR470 to Tarpley for lunch at Mac and Ernies (http://www.macandernies.com/index.htm)
The return routing can be variable depending on everyone’swishes as we can discuss it at lunch but I currently have planned: RR470 – RR187 – Utopia – SH1050 – US83 –Leakey (Fuel Here) – RR337 – Medina. There are numerous options beyond that to get back.

Everyone is welcome on this ride MSTA member and guest but we do have a few small rules we would like you to follow:

    1. I am the ride organizer NOT ride leader meaning I am not responsible for you. You must ride within your limits and comfort level at all times. If you get a ticket or crash it is not my fault. I make no claim to road conditions or hazards along the way. We WILL NOT leave anyone behind and really don’t mind waiting at the next turn for anyone. The goal is to have a good time and return to tell lies and maybe a laugh or two along the way.
    2. If you are going to be late PLEASE text or call me and let me know and we will be happy to wait for a bit. If you do not let me know and are not there by 9am we will leave you behind.
    3. If you plan to break off the group at any point other than the planned stops please let me know so we don’t spends hours going around trying to find you. And yes it has happened.
    4. Please be courteous of the other riders. If you need to pass do so when there is plenty of room and warning not at the apex of turn. Sure it’s fun but it sure scares the heck out of less experienced folks. And yes that has happened recently as well. There are no trophies, contingency money or big checks and bragging rights means nothing.
    5. ATGATT is recommended but not required.
    6. Just enjoy the ride!

Questions or if you need more information call me, the numbers in the BlueBook.

Great day riding today! The wx was perfect, the food at Mac and Earnies awesome, and the riding companions the best. Thanks to Choon, Pedro, Ed for joining me. We come upon an accident on 337 where played good samaritan and helped the rider get his bike from under the guard rail. looked like a clear case of panic as I saw a rear tire skid mark quite lengthy leading into the turn. luckily the rider was ok but the bike was unrideable.

GPS says 274.7miles for me and Choon has some good pics I am sure he will post soon.
