This is terrible and disturbing news. We all enjoy riding partially because of the risks involved, and we accept those risks. If I go down because I'm riding too hard and fast, I can accept that. Being hit by someone then being left on the side of the road is difficult to accept.

Thoughts and prayers for the best possible outcome to Bob and his family.

To the dreg of humanity that hit him and left him, I hope Karma deals swift justice.
    Ride safe, hard, and frequently!

Our thoughts and prayers are out to Bob and his family.

It just seems that the motoring public is becoming more and more complacent over time and approaching driving far too casually. We need to make an effort to change that if we ever hope to reduce these types of incidents.

Thoughts and prayers with Bob and his family. I can only imagine the tough times which lay ahead. Heal fast Bob.

I just don't understand how anyone can hit another vehicle and not stop to offer assistance. Hope the suspect gets everything coming to him and more.

    Greg,

Wow that is horrible. Sadly this isn't the first person (some in cars including on duty police) that are hit and killed/maimed on the side of the road. People just don't pay attention, or even worse see a parked vehicle with lights and fixate on it driving right into it.

Please let me know if there is anything that the MSTA folks in NE OH can do for him. If you need to contact me my cell# is 330-338-5185.

    Speedy Recovery

That's an amazing story Bob. Making a tourniquet out of your rain gear to save your life.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Wishing a speedy recovery.

    Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Steve

Thanks for your offer of help. The best thing anyone can do right now is to stay on the lookout for the car:
a 90's-style four-door Buick, described as being metallic light beige in color which likely has heavy damage to the right-side front fender, bumper and molding. It will also be missing a right-side hubcap and mirror.

Shocking! I am so glad to read that Bob was able to keep it together when those around him could not act. So glad to read that he will recover, not without a huge loss, but still... Hang in there, Bob!

I cannot imagine what I can do to help, but if someone thinks of something let me know.

I feel sure that Bob's career training helped him tremendously during the actual trauma/emergency situation. As someone else mentioned, we love a sport that carries a huge risk each time climb aboard or throw a leg across the seat (often at the expense of others who obviously don't see us or care about motorcyclists). We don't like to think about the "what if's" of possible dangerous situations, but MSTA members know that things can (and do) happen. As an overall group, it seems that we have had a lot of accidents this year alone. Just a thought, but perhaps it is time to participate or offer a basic emergency course at some of the extended MSTA events. Whether it is an emergency at home, work, on the road, while traveling, it is always good to have a plan etched in the back of your mind, because without a general plan in place most people will panic causing more problems and chaos during an emergency.
