JT & Greg - I have recieved an e-mail from John Cirner with route files, but they are of little use to me (no GPS). I asked about paper maps, but got no response. Also, there was some exchanges on roommates needed (Ecki Euler, the new guy from Germany was looking to split a room). That's all I know so far. BTW - I spoke with Keith and will be rooming with him. See you in Bellaire Friday night.

    Hi Rich,

My guess is John and Peter will start cranking things out this weekend, last weekend prior to the event.

Do you have anything, like MS Streets & Trips, that you normally use for printing out maps?

If timing gets tight and you're concerned, let me know, and I'll make a PDF of your chosen routes for you to print out.

    Cheers!

Not sure I can make this one, will deal with it by mid week. If I go, it will be to Bellaire on Friday, returning solo Saturday to visit my daughter. Work may win out on Friday.

Guys and Gals without a GPS:

I figured you guys would need some help. Printing maps for all the routes and all the riders is time and paper consuming. Here is a link to download a program to open the routes and explore routes, print maps, and directions if you are compelled to do so.

    http://www.garmin.com/us/products/onthetrail/basecamp

Ann and I are not able to make it to Bellaire until late Friday do to work schedule conflicts so we didn't want the riders looking for these when they arrived, either Thursday night or at the riders meeting Friday. Check with Peter who is the ride coordinator planning the meetings and waiver signup.

    Hopes this helps,

    JC

    Rick-
I got the e-mail shortly after my post. I just have to load the files into the GPS and get a paper Michigan road map...just in case. From the article in the front page of the newsletter, it sounds like we get to pick the route to Bellaire by going to the appropriate starting place?

This will be my third MSTA ride...just when I think I have it figured out, the routine changes, but that is part of the fun. Can someone compare and contrast the two routes? I've only been "Up North" a couple times.

    Hi John,

We're just a couple days out now. When will you be sharing this year's routes? If you have, by email, I've not received anything.

    JT:

GPS routes went out last week to everyone on Gregg's TOTM sign up sheet from the last meeting. I also requested that Gregg and Peter announce at the August meeting (since Ann and I were at MotoGP) that if anyone wanted the routes they should send me an email requesting them. No one replied. I was instructed to NOT post them on the forum. This IS like herding cats

    Check your inbox at jt@jtpedersen.net

Sent them to you this morning.

    Hi John,

Thanks. Got your email; I appreciate it.

Not sure why Gregg would discourage posting things here. I've posted GPS in the past. Shucks, the forum even has a special section just -for- posting GPS files. My suspicion is Gregg's concerned about the liability aspect: 'you' post the routes, if someone has an accident, they'll come after 'you' because you told 'em where to go.

One less cat to herd now<g>.

    JT:

Glad you got these in time. IF you know of anybody else looking let me know. As for posting the routes I think the main concern is hanging a bunch of routes out there for anybody to use. It's really for "members only" and not public searches and I'm not quite experianced enough with the forum to figure out a way to post privately or to do so and still reach the Michigan riders who are not regulars on the MSTA website forum. I myself just got back on this forum less than a month or so ago. Email is certainly more direct and if anyone has a problem with the routes they can bounce emails back and forth.

This reminds me that these routes are from previous years experiance and I know for certain the starting point for Thursdays ride up, starting with Peter's breakfast meeting location is different than the "All Star Diner to Bellaire" route and the ride will start at Leo's at 9am on thursday. This is a restaurant on Highland Rd. near US23 I guess you can put in the route as is and add a waypoint. Also, while I don't want to throw Ann under the bike I should let you know she is the Team Cirner map maker and all I do is turn on and hit "Go" on the Zumo. Talk about trust in your partner. They may be a few "Pippins" on the routes so make sure you look ahead of the GPS route before you get there.

The east side Sunday Route, "Bellaire Inn to M15" is a really enjoyable ride home. Ann and I realize it's really out of the way for all you West Siders, definately not the shortest way home but for us it ends right in our back yard. It goes M32 East past Gaylord and is an easy, quiet (no stops) ride to the first stop in Gaylord for refills, downloads and coffee. Then on through Lewisiton, Garland Resort (my vote for Michigan STAR host hotel), and on Ausable River Road (our favorite) to Tawas. Great lunch stop in East Tawas @ Augie's on the Bay. Home cooking, great breakfast and lunch specials, and pie! Home from there is down 23 and gives lots of options to head West or Intersect I75 before Saginaw. M15 south of there is casual speeds and no big deal to miss. Let me know if you have any questions,

    JC

    Hi John, et al.,

As you have time to poke around, you will find there is a Members Only section to the forum, and within that the GPS section. One approach is to post files there and then share the link here. That said, email works fine.

    Cheers
