This has not been a good week for the MSTA. We have lost some really really good people and will be made a lesser organization and be lesser people because of these losses. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We were all blessed by knowing him.

We had close to two dozen biker friends of Bert's at his memorial service tonight. Several of them were brave enough to speak during the "Remebering Bert" part of the service. It was very clear that he was and is loved by all who knew him. I still cannot quite believe that he is gone.

Longest celebration of someone's life I've ever been too. Place was packed and once Woovis broke the ice by saying a few words about Bert at least 20 more people stepped up. I thought I knew Bert pretty well but it was obvious to me I knew only a part of him. We all would like to think people think well of us and would have nice things to say about us but that room was FULL of people that really loved Bazil Bert (Sonny) Pack. MPFB will be very different without him and Tim Z this year.

When Roger Batistelli (Cleveland) passed away last year a large group of friends from the MSTA/riding community attened the memorial service. A few spoke, but many others (including some of his closest friend) were just not able to do it. That was in Oct/Nov, this spring we had a memorial breakfast in the park with some of the family and riders. This time many more people were able to share stories, it was a very good celebration of his life. Most of us learned a little more about Roger that day.

It has been a tough year, Roger, Tim Zimmer, Bert and Jim Poulus (TX). Live life to the fullest, remember these good folks, and do something that would make them feel proud.

Bert Pack has died of an apparent heart attack. It was already a bad year for lost friends in Ohio MSTA. Since last October Roger Battistelli and Tim Zimmer have both lost their fights with cancer. Bert’s loss comes close to the Mail Pouch Fly-By, an event at which he always volunteered. But then, Bert volunteered for everything. The Burger Burn at Mid-Ohio was Bert’s big project for several years, but he was quick to lend a hand anywhere he could. I believe he had a deep need to do good, not just to work but to help people. He was that way in all aspects of his life. At Bert’s memorial service we heard over and over of his humor and his helping nature and how with them he enriched the lives of those around him.

Bert was a gentle, though mis-chievous, grandfatherly pres-ence in the central Ohio group. He was a mentor for some and a great example for all. Many of us were surprised to learn that he was only 65 years old at his death. (I thought he was 65 when I met him 13 years ago.) We would tease, “Bert is older than dirt!” And he would reply, “You’re on my list!” Bert is on my list of the people I am most glad to have known.

Just navigated to this new forum for the first time--this is NOT what I wanted to read.

I am also proud to have made it to Bert's list, more than once.

    Godspeed Bert.
