This email was posted to anyone who registered for STAR 12:
First – a big thank you to all who responded to the STAR 12 Survey.
Your evaluations and comments have a significant effect in setting up and planning future STAR’s.
I am attaching two links:
http://www.hemko.com/star12/star12-surveystats.pdf
This is a link to the survey statistics. On the right side is a comparison to the statistics from STAR11 in Johnson City, TN.
The comparison shows the difference between High + Very High percentages. All STAR volunteers have striven to produce the best possible experience at each STAR, so High and Very High are always the goal.
You will notice that several items (like the welcome reception) improved significantly from STAR11 to STAR12. That’s because the STAR volunteers listened to your complaints and suggestions from 2011 in an effort to vastly improve in 2012. Your feedback is extremely important in guiding the STAR teams.
The major area of problems in 2012 was the lunch ride. Too long/ far, too much money for the meal received, too small an area to feed people and still allow leisurely visiting, insufficient washroom facilities (there were three porta potties, but they were well hidden and not advertised). The bad thing is that the lunch ride was not a big hit. The good thing is you told us about it. Look for a better lunch ride at future STARs!
Here is a list of your comments:
http://www.hemko.com/star12/star12-allcomments.pdf
All comments have been included and not edited, so please don’t let your children look at this document ;>))
Many of the comments include important commissions and omissions relating to STAR 12 and will definitely lead to corrective action in the future.
Remember, we are all volunteers and we are always looking for more people to help with STAR’s.
Thanks again for your feedback – it is essential to improvement!

Thanks for the work Harry, sorry I was one of those attendees that didn't respond. I meant to, but since I didn't return until about 10 days after STAR, and then I was busy with a few other things.
Regarding the lunch ride, I guess there was some benefit to showing up near the end (as we didn't have to wait for a table or that long for food). Restrooms are always a crap shoot, I've been to facilities with seating for several hundred that have no more bathrooms available than a small diner that seats less than 50.
Also glad to hear the actual attended (and registered) numbers were more inline with prior STAR in Avon than I thought (I thought I heard something like under 350 attended).
And thanks once again to all the STAR volunteers who did such a great job.
Reading through the comments its clear to me that some people just didn't get around during the rally. Somebody mentions "reduced merchants presence except for No-Mar". Really, so they didn't see RKA, Butler Maps, and the 2-3 other vendors set up in the lobby across from the door many used going to/from the garage? (That's more than I recall seeing in the past 10+ years.) I guess having more info on where things are set up could help, especially at a larger venue like the Christie Lodge.
As far as the "it was too hot, no AC" MSTA does not control the weather, and the rooms at Christie are generally comfortable in the evenings with fans. And the "we've been to Avon too many times", well that easy to say but you need find some other place and local volunteers willing to put on a rally elsewhere. The club can only do a rally with a proper facility (many factors) and local volunteers willing to do the work. Saying "have it elsewhere, like BC, etc" sounds great, but who's going to do the work?

I found this suggestion interesting:
Do the bike raffle drawing at the banquet in front of crowd. Put all the tickets in a rotating basket and draw one
out. Also suggested this last year
How does this person think it is done? Exactly like that, at every STAR. There is one step involved after the ticket is pulled in front of the crowd, however. The ticket pulled is given to the membership Director who checks to make sure this person is still a member.
Hi Harry,
I wasn't able to respond to the survey because my computer crashed. I enjoyed the rally in Avon CO. The accomodation was great at The Christie Lodge. The meet & greet event was excellentand there was plenty of good food available. The rides were just super except the lunch ride was kind of long & boring. The lunch meal really wasn't worth the price .The awards ceremony & bike raffle need to de worked on .
All in all I enjoyed being a participant.
There's always room for improvement in any undertaking, but I'll have to say that I was extremely well pleased with STAR this year. Great location, great host hotel, and a tremendous effort by a big group of selfless volunteers. I'll go back to Avon anytime. (Actually, sooner rather than later - I won a week's lodging as a door prize...)
