Exactly. One of my biggest issue with the Harley/cruiser rider group (other than loud pipes, neglect of safety gear) is this bar hopping mentality that "bikers" have. Most of us have enough common sense (yep its nearly extinct) to not go out drinking and then drive home. But these macho men & women make a habit of going to bars on their bikes, drinking (not just 1-2 with a meal) and then riding home.

I'd say it was natural selection at work but many of them have already procreated and added their offspring to the gene pool. (And you can bet they're teaching the kids "helmets are dangerous and a violations of your rights".

Not only should we wear helmets everytime we ride, but also all the other gear. When I see the HD riders with their tank tops or ripped off t-shirt sleeves riding around with their tattoos hanging out, I always say...that's one way to get your tattoos removed. Whenever I go riding I always think "I have to continue being a wife, mother, and teacher when I get back. I need to ride safe". I saw a guy wearing a helmet, tank top, shorts, and flip flops that other day. WHAT?!?!?! Talk about a lack of common sense. FIrst of all, how did he shift gears? ouch! His head will be in good shape but the rest of him will be mince meat.

I know, mama is lecturing again, but seriously, why take the risk. My MSF instructor said that riding a motorcycle is just managing risk. I can control how much risk I take but not the other drivers on the road, so I need to take steps to protect myself that best I can. ATGATT

I think what we may see here is that the CDC study will get Washington's attention. As they hold the purse strings to most State highway funding they may force States to comply with a universal helmet requirement (much like they used that hammer to get States to comply with the 55MPH "gas saving" period in our country). -JEP-
