    Question Fitted Ear Plugs/Head Phones

I am thinking of getting a set of the custom earplugs with the headphones built in for use with my iPhone - so I can listen to some tunes and hear my GPS while riding. I have been using disposable ear plugs and cheap in-helmet speakers for a few years now and the speakers are on the way out. Just trying to get some input on brands, what's good, price and overall thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Chris

I love mine, but they were pretty expensive. You might want to try a simple set of small earbuds before spending a large sum of money for a special molded set. I have a set of earplugs molded for my ear and a set of wired molded earplugs too. Both set were purchased from EAR-ific Molds (out of Georgia). After questionning several companies at the International Motorcycle Show, Mr. McCarty was the only one who said that if I experienced any problem or if a wire came loose that the earplugs could be sent back for repair. Everyone else said no, their brand couldn't be repaired.

I love my custom molded ear plugs, too. I have been wearing them for about 10 years and cannot stand anything else. I have 3 pairs of the "regular" and 1 wired for sound--which are great. All but one of mine were also made by Tim McCarty. He does a great job and also is an MSTA member...

Mine worked great for a couple of years but then the shape of my ear canal must have changed very slightly and one of them would not seal anymore. I eventually threw them out. Before that they were very effective although I wasn't fond of the thud, thud, thud sound when walking.

I tried the molded ones from EAR-ific Molds and I just could never get them to work for me. I had Tim "adjust" them twice... no go. They hurt! I use ones from Lazer Lite... the yellow and red ones and love them. No sound but I don't want sound. I am going to try a Sena to link my iPhone on a trip coming up in a couple of weeks and will see if I can use that WITH my ear plugs. The noise would NOT be good for me if I couldn't use it with the ear plugs.
    YMMV

I've been using Etymotic MC-5 earphones this spring. Not a custom earplug, but very effective with great sound. About $60 at amazon. If you want custom earplugs others' recommendations are good.

I just got the MC-5s also and am very happy with them. They work well with the included silicone flanges, but can also be used with custom molds. Instructions on how to arrange that are in the package - there's a brand of custom mold that can be made at many audiologists.

Brick, I am using the MC-5s with the Sena SMH-10.

WOW! Thanks for all the input. I'm going to check out the MC-5's for sure, but I have never had great luck with ear buds, even when not riding. I really don't get how people can jog and exercise with them in and not have them fall out every few seconds (that's what happens to me). Thanks again!

Do you have a contact email or anything for Tim? I tried sending him an email from the web site, but it got kicked back.

    Thanks,
    Chris
