Local History: Marble Falls is an unincorporated community in Newton County, Arkansas. It lies along Arkansas’s National Scenic 7 Byway between Harrison and Jasper. A Choctaw Indian named Ah-Che-To-Mah was the first settler known to have acquired title to land in the vicinity of Marble Falls. The waterfall once supplied power for a flour-mill, cotton gin, and a saw-mill. Peter Beller built the original waterpowered grist-mill there about 1840, and this mill was later rebuilt and remodeled by several different owners. The community was originally named Marble City for the marble that was quarried nearby. A block of marble quarried by Peter Beller and his cousins is part of the Washington Monument. Marble City became known as a health resort in the 1880s, through the advertisements of businessmen such as Dr. Silas Scruggs Stacey, proprietor of the Stacey family store and provider of Dr. S. S. Staceys Sulpher Mountain Bitters (which sold briskly for $1 per bottle). Albert Raney, Sr., who became postmaster in 1934, had the official name changed to Marble Falls.

    • Bull Shoals Damn - This route takes you east out of Harrison through beautiful farmland, across Crooked Creek to Bull Shoals Lake where you will cross the 256 feet dam. The lake covers over 71,000 acres and is used by both boating and fishing enthusiasts.

    • Eureka Springs Back Roads - Eureka Springs is a beautiful Victorian Village nestled in the Ozark Mountains. The city has a great downtown shopping district and many attractions such as the Great Passion Play and the Pine Mountain Jamboree.

    • Jasper Disaster - The Jasper Disaster has the name for good reason. Mile for mile, this route is the curviest riding route. The route encompasses the most scenic section of Highway 7, follows Highway 74 over the mountains and joins Highway 43 in Boxley Valley.

    • Mountain View Run - The Mountain View Run takes you down Arkansas Highway 14 across the Buffalo National River through the Sylamore National Forest. The best attraction along this mroute is Blanchard Springs Caverns that is incredible!

    • Ozark Moonshine Run - The Ozark Moonshine Run is without a doubt the most picturesque route in the Ozarks. The route encompasses parts of Scenic Highway 7 and winds through the deepest parts of the Ozarks.

    • Peel’s Ferry - If you haven’t experienced the Peel’s Ferry Route, you haven’t experienced the most unique route in the Ozarks. The Peel’s Ferry was developed when the White River was dammed to make Bull Shoals Lake. Bull Shoals Lake now covers the Highway AR 125 leading into Missouri.

I'm excited. My leave just got approved today :D We have some folks in Mountain View I'd like to meet up with again and the Marine Corps Legacy Museum sounds neat.

My "to" route starting Thursday evening camping at the Queen Willihema State Park then off Friday morning for the meetup at Marble Falls is attached as a GPX. I'll be leaving Fort Worth around Noonish on Thursday the 10th.

    Hi,
Have you done the Indian Highway south of Talihena? Go to Antlers and take 271 north to 144. Take that east and you'll come to a new intersection with a church camp. Take the road north thru Honobia and you'll come out just south of Talihena and can then take the Drive across to the Park.

    See you late Friday evening.

Hey Rick I don't know of anyone planning on dual sporting but I do know that John is planning to ride his KLR over Friday as a shake down for his Alaska trip later this summer.

I actually rode it for the By-Way Boogie on your suggestion two years ago :D It was an awesome road. I might change my route around tonight and program it for that instead. Last time I got to the campsite right as it was getting dark because I left work around 1ish and went that direction. It'll be the same this time.

I wondered if that was you but it was a different screen name

I see you are going over Mt. Magazine which is a nice road. I don't know if on the Byway you rode either of these routes.

103 north out of Clarksville to Oark (great pie) and 215 over to 23. 215 doesn't go thru east of Oark and I prefer 103 going up the mountain switchbacks.

123 out of Clarksville going northeast to 7 and also on past to Mt. Judea is another of my favorites.

I haven't heard what the routes will be for Saturday but I've got plenty of ideas no matter what they come up with.

I had told them I would put them in GPX/GDB if they came up with anything definite but haven't heard anything yet.

This one is one I had put together a few years back and since then I've found a couple more small roads to by pass the part into Clarksville but it gives you ideas. http://www.okmsta.com/gps/2008/12108...40.139.83.html

A lot of these http://www.okmsta.com/arkansas.htm are routes I've ridden over the years. Anything in that part of Arkansas is fantastic as long as you don't get stuck behind traffic.

I was Jeepinbanditrider before the forum crash.

I've got my Saturday planned out already. I'm not big into the group riding thing so I usually go out on my own and meet folks for lunch or whatever.

I plan on swinging by Mountain home to a Yamaha dealership that was a huge help in getting us back on the road when my dad's Stratoliner lost a drive hub bearing just outside of town. They let us use their van and trailer to get his bike to their shop they let us use their shop and tools and even helped us arrange parts at the Yamaha shop in Harrison.

I attached my route plan for Saturday

Good roads. Have you ever done Push Mt 341? It's also been called the Arkansas Gap by some. I see you have routed up Highway 5 well 341 is just a few miles west of that and runs from 14 near Big Flat up to 201 which will put you out on 5 again just south of Salesville.

Many many roads and I love them all
