Biography:

I started riding at the age of 26 in 1973 with a used Kawasaki H1 (500cc, 2-cycle, 3-cyl). After putting nearly 8K miles on it over four months, I decided a two-cycle engine was not suitable for touring. I traded the H1 for a '74 Z1 (903cc, 4-cycle, 4-cyl) and proceeded to put nearly 60K miles on it over 6 years. Living in California at the time, I decided to replace my Z1 due to the high mileage. I bought a new 1980 KZ1000-Shaft Drive and proceeded to put nearly 60K on it over four years before selling it prior to relocating to Europe. After a hiatus of 20 years, I returned to motorcycling in 2010, buying a 2008 Kawasaki Concours 14. As I was in the process of preparing this bike for cross-country touring, I saw a 2010 Concours at the dealership in early 2011. Since this bike was significantly improved over the 2008 model, I negotiated a trade-in and proceeded to ride the 2010 Concours for over 63K during nearly 19 months until crashing it in Ohio in August 2012 just before the Mail Pouch Fly-By event in Marietta. During my recooperation from my injuries, I researched a replacement motorcycle and settled on the silver 2013 Triumph Trophy SE, which arrived at the dealership in January 2013. Since taking delivery, I've put several thousand miles on this new bike and am quite happy with it.
