The Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) was founded in 1982 and is chartered by the American Motorcycle Association. The primary purpose of the club is to bring together riders whose focus is motorcycle sport touring regardless of type or brand of motorcycle . There are members throughout the US, Canada, and numerous foreign countries. Members range in age from late teens to late eighties, with a median age between 35 and 45, and include virtually all socioeconomic strata. The majority of our members ride sport touring bikes.

Kim Ewen, Gary Ibershoff and I want to thank everyone who joined us for the inaugural Michigan Renegade Mountain Ride (MR2) last week and made it a tremendous success.

We had an eclectic blend of riders; from the old guard to three former SMOTYs to newer Michigan MSTA riders and a few brand new members who made this event their first.

There were 12+1 routes to choose from, varying from almost 400 miles of twisties to a short 75 mile ride up and over the Blue Ridge ending in a 2 mile hike to see a 420ft waterfall. To our delight at least three riders took the short ride and hike and reported the falls were worth the walk.

The weather cooperated perfectly, with sun every day, allowing several riders to accumulate almost 1600 miles in 5 days. One tire had to be replaced mid-event and several bikes left the event needing new tires.

Great food was available within five miles of the event hotel and there were several memorable restaurants included in the routes. I know I added about six pounds and I wasn't the biggest eater, although I'll admit to "out-desserting" anyone else.

The route-meister (that'd be me) has already tweaked the routes for 2014, bypassing one goat-path road and one has-been road.

Now maybe we can get riders to post pictures (Terry?).

I have installed a 1998 BMW K1200RS rear shock on my 1989 Yamaha FJ1200. The mod was fairly easy. I pressed out the rubber damper type upper sleeve and replace it with the stock teflon type sleeve. The lower clevis mount need the hole opened up slightly and the use of a few washers as shims. The BMW shock is about 3" longer than the stocl FJ shock. The stock dog bones were way to short to use. I made my own dog bones which are longer by 3".

Williams Vintage Cycle, 411 Home Avenue, Xenia

Their flyer says "On Route 68, 3/4 mile north of US 35 bypass." I'm not going to Tri-STAR so am planning to attend. Now, I only have vintage German and Swedish motorcycles but I'm vintage "Japanese-American" so I hope they let me in! :-)
