I live in Reno, NV. I am new to street riding. I rode dirt bikes for 5 or 6 years. I like street riding much better- both on the back of my husbands VFR and on my own bike. Many of the members of this forum helped me pick out a bike for myself recently. In October, I got a blue 07 FZ6. I love the bike so far. My son thinks it is his too. But little does he know, mommy plans to ride it a lot.

I am a kindergarten teacher by day. My goal is to ride to school this Spring if it ever warms up.

I hope to get to a STAR event but it probably won't be for a couple of years. Kids are still at home. Once we get them moved out, we will be ready.

Monica, welcome to MSTA west. Perhaps one day you will ride over the mountains and join us for April in Paso Robles, California.

Let us know what your students think of you riding a motorcycle. Just think you could influence some of them to take up the sport some day.

The only people I knew that rode motorcycles growing up were my brothers (thanks to their influence I started riding in my 30s) and a childhood friend in LA who road dirt bikes with his dad.

I saw the Paso Robles ride on this site a few days ago. I mentioned it to my husband. He was interested. Being new to street riding I need some more practice before joining a group ride but we are looking forward to it in a year or two. My husband and I plan on doing Highway 1 from South San Francisco to Ventura County and make a loop of it. I'll let you know when we are going and maybe we can meet up somewhere along the route. We are looking for a bike for my 16 year old son to ride. We currently share my FZ6. He wants an FZ1 but we are not going for that. Besides the insurance costs, too much bike.

My students think its "cool" but they haven't actually seen me on it yet so we will see. Parents will be another thing. It helps to be a little crazy to teach kindergarten and to ride motorcycles. heehee The really funny thing is a drive a Volvo everyday and ride a motorcycle whenever I can. I go from the safest car to one of the most dangerous "hobbies". Hahahaha

When I was in grade school, it seems as though all motorcycles were ridden by macho types with a pack of Lucky Strikes under one sleeve of their t-shirt. I'm glad things have changed. :)

Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Highway/PCH) is a fun ride, I've done it a few times with my brothers when riding to Laguna Seca from the LA area. Going southbound will be better for getting out at some of the overlooks (on the ocean side). I really enjoyed the area but wish I had more time to stop and take in the sites.

The parents will come around, if they already trust you to teach their kids they must think you're not mentally unstable (a claim many make about anybody who rides a motorcycle).
